a-squared Security Center
The a-squared Security Center is your central control element to provide for security
on your PC. It offers access to the scanner, the quarantine, the background guard
and HiJackFree.
Security Status
In the status overview you can see which a-squared modules are active:
-
The OnExecution Scan sees to it that the program files are
controlled by the signature scan during the start even before it is loaded.
If a Malware file is activated accidentally, the background guard denies the
process and a warning message appears. Thus the OnExecution Scan should be
always enabled.
-
The Malware-IDS constantly controls the behavior of all active
programs goes off in case of suspect activities. Make sure that this module is
always enabled.
-
With the Scheduled Scans you define a timed hard disk scan.
Due to the fact that a full system scan lasts awhile the scanner should sift
through the system when it is unused (lunchtime or in the evening).
-
Automatic Updates see about the up-to-dateness of Malware
signatures and program modules. It is extremely important that the last update of
the software is not older than one day. The Auto-Update takes on software updates
autonomously and checks the availability of updates at regular intervals.
Scan PC
The menu item "Scan PC" leads you to the Malware scanner which is the tool to check all
available drives for Malware infestation. You can find more information about the scanner
here.
Quarantine
If Malware was detected by the scanner or the background guard, you can decide whether
to delete the Malware immediately or to quarantine it. The quarantine has the advantage
of the ability to undelete files in case of instability of system because of deletion.
That's why you should quarantine unknown located objects first. The needed hard disk space
is marginal.
Configuration
The menu item "Configuration" retrieves nearly all configuration options for the a-squared
background guard:
-
With the Application Rules you define which programs are allowed,
which are denied and which programs require special Malware-IDS inspection rules.
-
The Guard Settings allow you to configurate the background
guard in detail, i.e. which kind of Malware shall be announced and how sensitive the Malware-IDS
shod work.
-
In the Scheduled Scan section you lay down the execution time
for an automatic scan of the hard disk. Detailed timing options stand by.
-
In the Update menu you can find lots of detail configurations
for updating, i.e. which files are needed and if the message window should be seen after
successful updating.
-
Under Auto-Update you define the execution time for searching
for updates automatically.
-
The License section shows the active software license which is used
on the PC.
