a-squared Background Guard

The Background Guard may seem small and inconspicuous in its service as a symbol in the taskbar; it is, however, the part most important for your security. You may be able to disinfect your computer with the scanner, but that offers no protection against new infections.

Start the Background Guard from the a-squared Anti-Malware program group in the start menu.

You'll know that the Background Guard is active when you see the a-squared symbol in the taskbar (next to the clock). Double click the symbol to open the a-squared Security Center. By right clicking the symbol you'll open a context menu with quick access to the most important parts of the a-squared program, like the Security Center, Scanner, Online Update, HiJackFree, Application Rules and Guard settings.

The a-squared Background Guard is actually composed of two large components:

• OnExecution Scan
  
  The Background Guard checks every program you run with the definition scanner before it even starts. If malware attempts to execute, you'll immediately receive a warning notification and can halt the further execution of the program.

• Malware IDS
  
  The Malware-IDS constantly monitors the activities of all acitve programs. As soon as a program performs suspicious operations, you'll receive a warning notification; at which point you can decide whether that program should be allowed to continue or if it should be stopped.
